Let’s face it, we don’t have an ample amount of time to get ready in the morning. We are more prone to hitting the snooze button than getting up to shower and apply a full face of makeup. And to be frank, I’m totally okay with that. Beauty sleep vs. cake face? Yup, beauty sleep wins.
Because of this “I’d rather sleep” mindset, I’ve learned to simplify my beauty routine. In turn, it has been better for my skin and has allowed more time for coffee sipping (thank God). There has also been less running out the door with only half a shoe on, and hands full of everything that belongs in your purse except for my phone (which always seems to go missing). I know you are all guilty of rushing in the mornings, stressed, and being a hot mess.
So here I have my new beauty routine paired with a list of my favorite products to help me have a less stressful, less sleepy morning.
Get Good Sleep: Invest in an eye mask.
Yup, that sounds high maintenance, but I don’t care. The eye mask has saved my nights and my travels (not even being dramatic). I never go a night whether I’m sleeping in my bed or somewhere else without my sleep mask. I love the Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspired Silk Sleep Mask from EarthenWarrior on Etsy! Always go for soft silk to cushion your eyes and prevent lines and wrinkles while you sleep. Also, an elastic band works best for sleeping!
Start washing your face with Micellar Water
Micellar water isn’t a toner or face wash. However, it does cleanse the skin without the need for rinsing in one simple step. The water uses gentle, yet effective cleansing properties, strong enough to remove your mascara, but gentle enough to not strip moisture.
Do all of your “heavy duty” face washing at night and give your skin a break in the morning. I use micellar water to freshen up my skin without splashing water from the faucet on my pores. Soak a cotton ball with your micellar water and gently glide it all over your face. It doesn’t strip your face of all those good oils it needs and leaves you refreshed and ready to get on with your beauty routine! My favorite micellar waters include Bioderma, La Roche Posey, Eau Thermale Avéne, and Nuxe.
Stick to the basics: face, cheeks, eyes, lips.
My favorite concealer has been from Lancome, working well for under your eyes and covering imperfections! Another go-to for brightening the eyes has been Garnier’s Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller– life saver!
Long lasting blush is the way to go when you want to add a little color to your cheeks. I love Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blush in Blissful. It boasts a 12-hour longevity to help you conquer your work day.
For my everyday mascara, I go to L’Oréal Butterfly Effect. No need to use the expensive stuff when going to work! When I do want the fancy stuff, I love Diorshow Waterproof Mascara for an extra dramatic look. Before applying mascara, I line the inner part of my eyelid and between my lashes with a waterproof liner from Urban Decay. Their vegan All-Nighter liner is a game changer!
I will forever love my Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long Wear Eye Brow Pencil. It goes on smooth and blends easily with the brush at the other end, so you don’t look like sharpie brow.
Preserve your blowout overnight or go easy on the hairstyling.
Lately, I have been trying to stay away from the heat when it comes to my hair for two reasons: To improve my hair health and because it’s so effing hot! I go for the braid, stylish ponytail, or top knot. If you are a blowout lover, do the work the night before and buy a nice, silk pillow case to keep your hair from looking like a hedgehog in the morning.
I have found an amazing facial spray that works to keep your face fresh throughout the day, as well as set your makeup in the morning. Rosewater Facial Spray has multiple benefits, keeps your skin cool and hydrated, and it smells soooooooo amazing. My top picks are Mario Badescu, Jurlique, and Heritage Store (found at Whole Foods).
