Sitting here this morning, reflecting on my week, my month, my year… I can’t help but to think about how much I have held back. How listening to what my mind says throughout my daily activities, actually has made me feel like I am being restrained. Our minds are so powerful, and thinking too much gets in the way of our creativity.
I am reading a book right now, Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, which I recommend for those who love leading a creative life, and love reading about creativity. In it, she speaks about how ideas are active in our universe, and how one can so quickly slip out of our brains and into someone else’s. Sounds a little far fetch, but the way she describes it in the book is flawless. She writes about how we let so much other “stuff” get in the way of our creative process, we eventually push these ideas to the side and inevitably, lose them. Reading this, I felt it was our brain power and that little devil sitting on our shoulder telling us our ideas are “not good enough”, “they can wait”, “there’s no way we will make it”.
What if we took a second to really think about our ideas, goals, dreams, and then thought about all the ways they COULD happen, rather than all of the ways they couldn’t.
How can we change our mindset?
Our mind, on the outside, is concerned about the way things appear to be. If we are to let go of the negative, and the illusion that our idea is dumb, stupid, never going to happen, and believe for a minute that the brilliant idea that has come across us is possible, imagine what could happen!
So as I sit here, this Friday morning, ready to take on the weekend, and I encourage you to take the challenge of letting go of your greatest enemy, your negative mind, and really go after what it is you want. That being said, it may take hard work, and it may take some time, however, in the end wouldn’t it be worth it?
