Oh Monday. Or Tuesday. Which ever works best for you.
Today is the first day of work to kick off my next five (or six) days. You know the kind of work that actually pays the bills; the survival job; the stuff that provides green paper to put away in your piggy bank and hopefully save? Yeah, that work, the one you’re usually not too excited about, but know it will get you where you need to be down the road, so you go (I say that like we have the choice unless we don’t care about being fired or broke).
With the first day of [that] work, I need a little inspiration, especially with the neglect I have been so great at in regards to my writing/blog.
I have had a bit of writer’s block for the past two weeks (sorry… kind of) and honestly just haven’t wanted to write down anything other than my shopping lists. So I’ve taken to painting to express myself in a nonverbal way with hopes to work up some creative inspiration.
Aside from painting, I’ll tell you what has really inspired me through the past few weeks: The few girls that truly have changed the way my mind thinks and responds to life. You could say they have opened my brain to the different ways the world turns, therein making me see “the light” in everything I do. Today though I want to focus on one of those girls that put a face to the word “inspiration”.
Meet my friend, Alex, a Romanian gal who is full of life, literally; as my friend Bre put it, “I wish I had that much energy!”
You nailed it on the head girl.
Alex is this little ball of sunshine who is pretty much down for anything such as adventure, dancing, travel and as I have found out, a nice glass of champagne.
We meet for coffee sometimes at the local cafes in Laguna Beach, and starting from our first meet up, her stories have struck me with “aw”. She has experienced everything, fearlessly, I mean, has actually has taken whatever she has wanted to do and made it happen. This girl doesn’t let anything stop her and along the way, she continues to have fun and spread her “full of life” attitude.
She tells me stories of travel from Barcelona to Cairo, her plans to go to Seattle and Peru, her art classes where she has to draw a bug and create this abstract picture around it and of course her latest read. She’s a procrastinator, which I absolutely relate to, but as she puts it, “Us artists thrive on that.” She tells me of her paintings she does for the gallery she works at in Laguna Beach; upon arrival for a showcase her paint is still wet, “Don’t touch the painting!”
How true. We crave the excitement and stress to keep life all that more interesting.
She’s one of those people you could just sit with for hours and listen to. Her insight and thoughts are all positive and she says things like, “You have to believe,” or in regards to travel, “You have to make it a priority!”
There is a lot we could learn from people like Alex, the one’s filled with so much life and excitement for anything and everything. We can learn to take all things in life and make it positive whether it teaches us something new, provides us with a new experience or is just flat out FUN.
So, Miss Alex is my inspiration starter for this week and a reminder to work hard, make things happen, see the glass as half full, dance your booty off every now and then and maybe have a glass of champagne along the way.
