With school back in session and summers end just around the corner, us locals here in Laguna Beach have our summer just beginning, coined the “local’s summer”. With that in mind, I thought of all the fashionable jet setters squeezing in their last beach vacations for the season, or maybe beach locals (like myself) who are finally spending some (less crowded) time at the beach.
All that being said, here are some of my favorite beach essentials to wrap up the summer season right!
The Perfect Suit For Your Beautiful Body
No matter what shape or size you are, there is a suit that flatters every body out there. Lauren Conrad has a great “Summer Swimsuit Style Guide” on her site that lays out the different fashionable styles for everyone.
A few Swimwear tips:
For the bikini rockers: mix and match your top and bottom.
Add chunky bangles rather than dainty jewelry pieces; earrings are not necessary- salty beach hair is your best face accessory.
Accessorize with a HUGE hat and large sunglasses.
To cover up, make sure you choose airy, flow-y materials.
Don’t you dare wear heels or wedges; flats are the perfect shoe for your beach day.
Speaking Of Flats, My Favorite Beach Sandals:
The key to beach sandals is easy removal. I love being barefoot and when you are about to walk on the sand you want to be able to effortlessly remove your sandals.
A great flip flop is a beach essential: Giraffe Havaianas $28
I love a tan, colorful or gold accented gladiator sandal- try to find ones with a zipper.
Sole Society- Nancie Leather Gladiator Sandal– $64.95
The Perfect Knapsack
I love a good backpack, especially when traveling. It can also replace the teeny purse while wandering through town or heading to the beach. I also try to choose zippers or big buckles to protect your belongings and keep everything secure.
ASOS Color Block Backpack – $67.71
Zara Quilted Rucksack– $69.90
RVCA Canteen Backpack- $43.99
Tomboy (with a laptop)
Pack Your Favorite Book(s) [Or Kindle]
The best place to check off your summer reading list books = the beach of course!
My current read:
Need help picking a good read?
I found this great 2014 Summer Reading list on Let It Be Beautiful.
First and foremost, you need your sunscreens’, yes that is plural.
50 SPF for your face
AT LEAST 30 SPF for your body
and always back a lip balm that has protection.
Labels to look for: UVA/UVB protection, broad spectrum, hypoallergenic, Water Resistant, Paraben Free, PABA Free
I also look for Vegan, Gluten-Free, Vitamin E- a personal preference!
My favorite line is Sun Bum for Lips and Body.
For the face I spend a little bit more; it’s one of the beauty products I choose to splurge on.
Currently using OBAGI sunscreen with SPF 50, I choose a water resistant one when I know I will be jumping in the ocean (which is almost everyday).
Don’t be shy about reapplying, especially after playing in the waves.
When heading to the beach, my make up is my sunscreen (thanks to OBAGI Nu-Derm), however I do wear waterproof mascara and always have some kind of peachy color on my lips.
I don’t go big with waterproof mascara,I stay simple and choose Maybelline’s Volume Express Falsies Waterproof Mascara in Blackest Black and BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss.
For the hair, try Lush Sea Salt Spray– best purchase I think I have made this summer.
